White House Gearing Up for Negative Propaganda Campaign Against Legal Marijuana
It’s tough to publish anything that is not 100% confirmed and comes from unknown sources, however the recent news from the White House is tough to ignore. According to certain unnamed sources, there is a large campaign being prepared by White House officials to spread negative propaganda against state legalized marijuana. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, or ONDCP, is supposedly working in conjunction with other federal agencies such as the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and Health and Human Services to coordinate the attack.
According to a summary that BuzzFeed got their hands on from a July 27th meeting of what is being referred to as the Marijuana Policy Coordination Committee, “The prevailing marijuana narrative in the U.S. is partial, one-sided, and inaccurate. Departments should provide … the most significant data demonstrating negative trends, with a statement describing the implications of such trends. Staff believe that if the administration is to turn the tide on increasing marijuana use there is an urgent need to massage the facts about the negative impacts of marijuana use, production, and trafficking on national health, safety, and security.”
BuzzFeed claims to have reached out to certain agencies, such as the Education Department, that were asked to create bulleted memos on the negative impacts of marijuana legalization. The agencies either did not answer their inquiry or gave vague answers. At the Education department, one representative apparently confirmed that they had turned in their report already, indicating that in fact the report had been requested in the first place.
You have to ask the question, why in the world would our federal government spend time on a negative smear campaign against state legal marijuana? They think the current trend towards marijuana legalization is too positive? They spent more than 80 years smearing the poor plant’s reputation already! One natural conclusion is that big money has bought our federal agencies. Industries like tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceuticals have already been hit hard by the growth of the marijuana industry which is now estimated to be valued at $10 billion.
Sen. Cory Gardner
President Trump is not mentioned at all in the Buzzfeed article, but this is a White House agenda supposedly. Earlier this year he told reporters that he would probably support the STATES Act, a bill sponsored by Sen. Cory Gardner out of Colorado and Sen. Elizabeth Warren out of Massachusetts. If the bill passed it would reschedule marijuana and open the doors to banking for marijuana companies. Why then would Trump endorse this so called Marijuana Policy Coordination Committee, if not for lobbyist pressure?
Consider this as well, it took a day for this summary to get leaked. A White House smear campaign against legal marijuana is something they most likely would have wanted to keep hushed. It says a lot for the marijuana legalization movement that someone in the immediate inner circle of this committee felt it was so dumb that they immediately turned the document over to the press. If there truly is a negative propaganda campaign coming from Washington D.C., the marijuana movement is ready for it. Bring it on idiots! Cannabis has been around a lot longer they have and it will still be here long after they are gone.
