What To Do With Your Leftover Kief?
Kief is the term used for the resinous trichomes of the cannabis plant that we usually find at the bottom of our grinders after some use. While sometimes erroneously viewed as disposable by novice marijuana enthusiasts, kief actually possesses a significantly higher concentration of cannabinoids like THC than the actual cannabis flower that it stems from. Kief also comes in handy when your stash is gone and you won’t have any more for a while. Throughout history, kief has been used by a number of different cultures to make hashish cakes by heating and pressurizing the leftover cannabis plant material but there are other ways to take advantage of it.
Aside from making hashish, kief can be put to good use in a number of other different ways once you have a good amount of it stored up. For starters you can make your very own concentrate in the form of kief rosin when you have at least a few grams saved up. To make kief rosin at home place the kief between sheets of parchment paper and clamp down on it with as much pressure as possible using a hair straightener. Make sure that you don’t press for too long as this will end up burning your precious kief. Once the substance has cooled completely you have yourself some excellent rosin for dabbing.
Another great way to use your kief is to make edibles. To make some kief cookies, you’ll want to decarb it first to ensure that the cannabinoids are activated. Once decarbed take your favorite pre-made cookie dough and sprinkle about a teaspoon of kief over each and then ball up the dough and bake as normal making sure to keep your oven below 325°F to avoid ruining the cannabinoids due to the excess heat. Once done, you’ll have some extra potent edibles to enjoy.
If you do still happen to have some of your stash you can use the kief you’ve collected to make your joints and/or blunts that much more potent. All you need to do for this method is sprinkle your gathered kief over the cannabis flower you are getting ready to twist up. You can also top off your bowl/piece with the kief to achieve the same results without having to go through the trouble of rolling up something or if you are trying to conserve your stash.
Another easy way to use your kief is by vaporizing it. Due to its high trichome content kief vaporizes slowly, making it similar to a concentrate in that regaerd.You can also mix the kief with any flower that you may have around to give it a little extra boost in potency but we do recommend that you be careful with the amount you use as the high it produces can potentially be overwhelming for some.
