Weed Recipes: 4 Easy Cannabis Basics
Cooking with weed can be a lot of fun and is a great way to get high but it may be a little intimidating for first timers. I’m sure we’ve all heard horror stories from friends that were less than successful in their attempts to make their own edibles which wound up wasting their weed along with their time. Thankfully there are a few fundamental yet simple recipes that we are sure even the most culinarily challenged cannabis enthusiast can pull off. We’ve put together a list of four of of the easiest ones to get you started below!
4. Cannabutter:
Cannabutter is for all intents and purposes weed infused butter and is more often than not a part of many marijuana related recipes (as you’ll notice below).
Ingredients-
18 to 30 grams of weed
250 grams of butter, coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil
Process-
The first step is to de-carb your weed in order to activate the cannabinoids. To do so, begin by finely grinding up about 18-30 grams of your favorite herb and add this into a saucepan with 1 liter of water and about 250g of butter, coconut oil, olive oil, or even avocado oil. Bring this mix to a low simmer and stir it thoroughly. You need to allow this to continue to simmer for at very least 3 hours but longer is preferable. You’ll know that your weed is finally de-carbed once it turns a deep green and begins to give off a piney aroma.
Once de-carbed, allow the mix to cool and then strain it into a large bowl to remove any of the plant matter. Put the bowl in the fridge overnight to solidify, and you will have your very own homemade cannabutter!
3. Cannabis Tea:
This next recipe is pretty simple but you’ll need some of the cannabutter from above’s recipe. All you really need to do for this one is brew your favorite tea as per your usual routine but then add at least a tablespoon of your cannabutter.
Ingredients-
Your choice of tea
At least 1-3 teaspoons of finely ground cannabis
1 tsp of butter or cannabutter
Milk (optional)
Honey (optional)
Lemon (optional)
Process-
First you’ll want to cut a small hole in a tea bag and add the ground cannabis to the mix. Once you have the cannabis in the tea bag, add the bag, along with a tablespoon of cannabutter to hot water, let steep, and you’re done!
2. Weed Cream:
Much like cannabutter, this simple weed cream will be the basis for an assortment of other cannabis infused recipes such as ice cream or coffee.
Ingredients-
2 cups heavy cream
5-10 grams of broken up weed
Process-
Mix the heavy cream and weed in a medium saucepan and cook just below a simmer for about an hour. Once done, strain through cheesecloth or fine mesh then pour the cream into a mixing bowl and mix with a hand blender for half a minute then store in your fridge until ready for use.
1. Pot Brownies:
Probably the most famous cannabis infused edible there is, cannabis brownies are straightforward to make. All you need is some marijuana, some oil, and some brownie mix. Firstly, make sure your brownie mix is one that requires oil as an added ingredient – this is essential.
Ingredients-
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup cannabutter
1 3/4 cups coconut sugar
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 large eggs
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
3 mint leaves, minced (optional)
Process-
To begin, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and then grease up a 9×13-inch glass baking pan with cooking spray. Once done, pour the chocolate into a mixing bowl and melt in the microwave or over a saucepan filled with boiling water. Add your cannabutter to the melted chocolate along with the coconut sugar, salt, and vanilla then mix to combine. Begin adding the eggs one at a time and mix until fully incorporated. Mix in the flour, walnuts and/or mint (optional). Pour your batter into the baking pan and bake for about half an hour. Let cool slightly, then cut and enjoy!
