Mike Tyson Shops His Marijuana Farm TV Show
Boxing legend, entrepreneur, and cannabis enthusiast, Mike Tyson, has reportedly been shopping around a new scripted comedy series based off of his experiences as an up and coming weed tycoon. Tyson’s show, which currently has the clever title of “Rolling With The Punches,” will follow the life of a fictionalized version of Tyson, similar to Jerry Seinfeld’s character from his 90’s sitcom “Seinfeld,” as he tries his hand at running a cannabis ranch with the help of comedian Russell Peters who will play the former fighter’s best friend.
Tyson said of the show’s premise: “It’s simple. I’m playing a retired boxer who is growing marijuana. It’s basically me acting like me, so people can get a look at what my life could be like in different scenarios.” Which is as straightforward a concept as it can get. Tyson has already begun shooting the series at his forty acre California based Tyson Ranch which is to be located in California City, a town in the Mojave Desert that is about a 110-mile drive north from Los Angeles.
The champ has been a longtime advocate for the power of medicinal cannabis and the goal of his ranch is to help improve medical research tied to cannabis and its various compounds like CBD which has been proven to be effective as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticonvulsant, and antipsychotic agent. Tyson Holistic, the company that runs the ranch, is mainly staffed by veterans and tout that taking care of those who have served in the military as being one of their top priorities. The ranch, which is located near Edwards Air Force Base, hopes to create plenty of jobs in the rather remote area, as well as connect with and give back to the local community. The mayor of California City even went as far as describing Tyson’s business venture as a “rebirth” for the entire city.
“Rolling With The Punches” isn’t the champ’s first foray into a comedy show as Tyson has lent his name, voice, and appearance to the Adult Swim hit show “Mike Tyson Mysteries.” The show, which first aired in October 2014 and is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, features a rather hapless fictionalized version of Mike Tyson attempting to solve various mysteries with the help of Tyson’s adopted daughter Yung Hee Tyson, the ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry (the father of modern boxing) voiced by actor Jim Rash of “Community” fame, and a foul-mouthed, lecherous, alcoholic, talking pigeon voiced by veteran comedian Norm Macdonald. The show’s format is a humorous take on the old adventure shows from the 70’s and 80’s like “I Am the Greatest: The Adventures of Muhammad Ali,” “Scooby-Doo!,” “Jonny Quest,” and “Mr. T” among others and has so far ran for 3 seasons and produced fifty episodes from 2014 to 2018. If you get the chance, check it out as it is a pretty damn funny show!
