Weed Recipes: Cannabis-Infused Bourbon
Bourbon whiskey is an American liquor staple. This type of whiskey is primarily a corn based, barrel-aged, distilled spirit whose name is derived from the French Bourbon dynasty. Bourbon is popular worldwide on its own or as a part of nearly a countless number of cocktails. Some enthusiasts that enjoy both whiskey and weed argue that the only thing better than bourbon is cannabis-infused bourbon!
We’ve put together some directions for making your own cannabis-infused bourbon at home along with a couple of classic recipes to try it out once your weed whiskey is ready to go. You’ll need time to decarb the weed that you will be using first so you’ll want to plan ahead but it won’t take too long to do so.
Ingredients & Tools:
750 Ml of your choice of bourbon whiskey
7 grams of decarbed cannabis from your preferred strain
A weed grinder
Double boiler
An electric stove
An oven
Cheesecloth
Thermometer
Mason Jar
Process:
First, you’ll need to grind up your decarbed cannabis, pour it into the mason jar and then add bourbon. The ratio between cannabis and whiskey is dependent on what potency level you want to achieve but we suggest using 7 grams per 750 ML of your chosen bourbon.
Next, you’ll want to place the the jar on top of the double boiler and fill both pans with water to halfway cover the uncovered mason jar. Simmer your bourbon/weed mix at around 160 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately thirty minutes to an hour depending on how strong you would like your infusion. Make sure your that alcohol mixture does not reach 170 degrees otherwise it can potentially catch fire. Once the time is up, let your mix cool and then strain it through a fine mesh strainer lined with your cheesecloth. After it’s strained, pour it back into the 750 ML bottle with the remaining alcohol.
If you don’t happen to have a double boiler, fret not as there is another way to make cannabis-infused bourbon but it takes WAY longer. For this method place your weed and bourbon mix it in a mason jar and place it in front of a sunny window for at least 30 days. When the 30 days are up, strain the mix through a fine mesh strainer lined with your cheesecloth.
