Kodak Black Sentenced For Marijuana and Weapons Charges
Oft-troubled rapper Kodak Black is in the news again, but this time, it’s not for anything new. The 20-year-old rapper is facing the repercussions stemming from a January arrest, and it looks like he will be serving some additional jail-time.
Kodak Black Set To Do Time
After biding his time in a South Florida jail, Kodack Black has finally been sentenced for a slew of marijuana and gun-related charges.
According to court records, Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, has been sentenced to serve 364 days behind bars.
The good news for Octave, however, is he will have the opportunity to get out on parole early on good behavior. As it stands, Black has already served 90 days in jail, which will be counted towards his sentence.
Black was originally arrested back on January 18th, after the rapper was caught on Instagram live flaunting and brandishing firearms and smoking weed with several other people, in front of an infant.
Police stormed Black’s home and found 95 grams of pot in the rapper’s abode.
He was originally charged with grand theft of a firearm, two charges of possession of a weapon or ammo by a Florida delinquent adult felon, possession of cannabis over 20 grams, child neglect without great bodily harm and two counts of parole violation. However, most of the charges were later dropped, and the rapper e plead not guilty to possession of marijuana and possession of ammunition during a February court date.
According to additional court records, Kodak, as part of a plea deal, pleaded guilty to two probation violations, including driving on a suspended license and “associating with people committing crimes.”
Final Hit: Kodak Black Sentenced For Marijuana and Weapons Charges
Considering Black originally faced up to 12 years in prison, serving just under a year is a significant win for the hip-hop arist. According to The Blast, Kodak could be out as early as October if he continues to display good behavior. After being removed from solitary confinement, Black has now made several attempts at repairing his image. Currently, he is undergoing classes to obtain his GED while serving time.
While he’s been on his best behavior since the January incident, this is far from the first time Black has been in trouble with the law.
In May 2016, Kodak was arrested for possession of a firearm by a delinquent, armed robbery, false imprisonment and attempting to elude law enforcement.
Then, in October, he was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct after the rapper allegedly assaulted a teenage fan after a concert. He was released from jail back in December and placed on probation, which he eventually broke in the January mishap.
Hopefully, this latest stint in jail will help the young rapper get his life back on track. But that remains a big ‘if.’
