Tommy Chong is Partnering with Diamond CBD
How do celebrities end up using their names and faces to market legal marijuana? There is a cannabis revolution occurring in the country and many celebrites are playing an active roll in it. Is it simply a money making opportunity? Maybe it’s that they think marijuana is wonderful, and they want their names to represent legal cannabis. What other reasons could there be for the prevalence of celebrity endorsed marijuana, despite the federally illegal status of marijuana? Why do some celebrities look to disassociate themselves from marijuana?
Let’s take a look at some of the prominent celebrities that are using their fame to market cannabis products and legitimize the legal cannabis industry in the public’s minds-eye.
Recently, Tommy Chong has partnered with Diamond CBD out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He really likes their CBD infused gummy worms and so he thinks Diamond CBD and his brand, Chong’s Choice, are a good match. Tommy Chong is an iconic pothead with his name and face seemingly on everything marijuana related. His name is attached to strains like Chong’s Choice Sativa and Chong Star. You can buy his namesake strains in his Chong’s Choice brand pre rolls as well by the way, if you ever visit a state that has legalized recreational marijuana.
There is a great website for both Cheech and Chong’s glass smoking devices, https://www.cheechandchongglass.com. Tommy Chong even has a wipe brand called, Chongswipes, that eliminates the smell of any kind of smoke. He has vaporizers and a Genius Pipe, and there are cannabis chocolate bars that allow people to microdose.
There are rappers in the prime of their career like Wiz Khalifa that have their names on many different products and certainly marijuana strains are some of them. You cannot got to Las Vegas without seeing his name and cannabis strains, like Khalifa Kush, advertised.
And then, there are the famous artists like Snoop Dogg that have evolved from super music star to a powerhouse businessman. Snoop’s company, Merry Jane, is becoming a big and respected media outlet. The website for his cannabis strains, Leafs by Snoop, is very calming and really quite beautiful. The site shows his in-depth experience in business and his clear understanding of marijuana enthusiasts’ perspectives on what cannabis makes them feel like.
Whoopi Goldberg has taken a different route with cannabis, targeting products that appeal to women. She has partnered with Maya Elisabeth, and their slogan of “Whoopi and Maya” is very warming. They make a series of products such as cannabis infused epsom salts called Soak, cacoa called Savor, and a tincture called Relax.
Whoopi believes strongly in the medicinal benefits of cannabis, but even more than that, she believes that it can be therapeutic to anyone, if used properly. She even wrote a column for the Denver Post about how strongly she believes in the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, and in particular about her personal relationship with her vape pen.
So, imagine you are a famous celebrity. Imagine the financial opportunities that are afforded you on a daily basis. People and businesses are clamoring for you to put your name on their products, let them take your picture with their product, maybe do a short video. Easy money, you sign a contract agreeing to let them use your name, and then you are off to the next money making opportunity. Why choose to attach yourself to legal marijuana?
Whether it’s Willie Nelson, Melissa Etheridge or Bob Marley’s ancestors, as marijuana gains the acceptance of the people, we will see more celebrities endorsing marijuana. A lot of them may not see it as just another opportunity to make money, they very well may believe in the movement towards legalization. They may believe that the country will be better for it and that they are doing a service to the country and their fans. Hollywood may spend most of its time immersed in fiction, but when it comes to the real world, some of them are only involved in the cannabis industry for the money, while others are in it for ideological reasons…..and money.
