Rapper Ty Dolla $ign Busted for Weed and Coke in Georgia
Contrary to popular belief, it looks like famous rappers can’t drive around with a bunch of weed and cocaine without a care in the world.
Or at least, that’s the case with Ty Dolla $ign, who was busted by cops in Atlanta on Wednesday for doing just that.
Ty Dolla $ign Busted
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,Ty Dolla $ign, whose real name is Tyrone William Griffin Jr., was pulled over with six others at about 4:55 p.m. Wednesday on the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The 33-year-old rapper’s van was reportedly stopped after police officers smelled a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle.
The Atlanta Police department said that arresting officers found marijuana and cocaine in the van after a search.
Ty$, who was originally set to co-headline a concert at Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood later that evening, was ultimately arrested on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of cocaine and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. The six other people were reportedly released without charges.
However, despite the reports, his lawyer, Drew Findling, disputed the notion that his client was guilty, and claims the rapper didn’t have any drugs on him at the time of the arrest.
“He had no drugs on his person at all,” Findling told the local Channel 2 Action News. He said there were five others in the car, not six as police initially reported. “Apparently there was a small amount of some drug found in the car, and they let five people walk away. And they let the international superstar go into custody.”
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constiution, a Fulton County judge issued a $6,000 bond on Ty$, a California resident. The “Pineapple” rapper was set to open for G-Eazy alongside Lil Uzi Vert and YBN Nahmir on Wednesday night.
Now, however, it appears he’ll forgo a leg of the tour to deal with more “pressing” issues.
