Who Else Would a Marijuana Advent Calendar Appeal to But Children?

A British Colombia company is selling marijuana advent calendars that have a different strain of cannabis behind each little door of December leading up until Christmas. The calendar is one more gimmick to take advantage of the growing marijuana favoritism in Canada.

How many adults purchase advent calendars for themselves though? Similar to the debate about edibles that appeal to children, an advent calendar filled with cannabis may appeal to children.

Rather than a daily dose of chocolate, the Cannabis Christmas Calendar offers a different strain of pot each day with the most potent one saved for Dec. 25.

The advent calendar sells for $135 for half a gram per day or $260 for a full gram.

Mongeau says they’ve already sold 500 calendars to dispensaries and online.

“Hopefully you’ll see this in Walmart next year and grocery stores,” he said.

The island business isn’t the only one in the province that’s selling the specialized products.

Coast to Coast Medicinals in Vancouver says it’s received more than 100 pre-orders online.

The festive calendars are catching on, but some experts are concerned the packaging is too appealing to kids.

“I think it’s a limited business plan, in terms of how long before they shut it down,” said University of Victoria professor Mark Colgate. “But I think it will be extremely popular. It’s packaged beautifully, it has a high novelty value.”

Canada is planning on legalizing recreational marijuana this upcoming summer and the excitement of our neighbors to the north is palpable. Canada is leading the world in the cannabis industry and recreating their identity with their embrace of marijuana. Their new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, is a big supporter of recreational legalization, enabling his country to be a pioneer in the world industry. Is it therefore also up to Mr. Trudeau to make sure they are handling the business of cannabis responsibly?
