This University Is Teaching Students About Marijuana

The university has partnered with American’s for Safe Access to host its Patient Focused Certification training. Courses will offer instruction for each sector of the industry: growers, manufacturers, dispensaries and labs. The courses cover laws and regulations; the latest evidence on uses for medical marijuana; plant and product consistency; pesticides; sanitation; operating procedures; labeling, inventory control and record keeping; and other relevant information.

As of this week, 24 students have registered. The 30-hour certification courses cost between $450 and $750.

Maryland approved medical marijuana in 2014. According to the state law, “any condition that is severe, for which other medical treatments have been ineffective, and if the symptoms ‘reasonably can be expected to be relieved’ by the medical use of Cannabis. In addition, if the patient has a chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition that causes severe loss of appetite, wasting, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures or severe or persistent muscle spasms, or glaucoma or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).”
