Recreational Marijuana in Cancun, Mexico

admin National Marijuana News

While the United States is being very progressive towards marijuana legalization relative to its past, it is processing all the new information surrounding cannabis slowly. Cancun, Mexico will soon be offering recreational marijuana and the entire country is working to root out the illegal marijuana market through the legalization process.

If Mexico makes marijuana legal in some of its most popular tourist spots like Los Cabos, it will make traveling to Mexico much more interesting. It would also be interesting to see how the legalization of marijuana impacts the cartels in Mexico.

Minister Enrique de la Madrid said Mexico could follow the example of the United States and legalize marijuana in areas with support, urging Quintana Roo, where Cancun lies, and Baja California Sur, the home of Los Cabos, to move ahead with it.

“It’s absurd that we’re not taking this step as a country,” de la Madrid told reporters at a conference in Mexico City.

“Even if there’s work to do on the whole of the country, I’d like to see that it might be done in Baja California and Quintana Roo,” he added, describing the states as victims of a poor drug law.

Baja California and Quintana Roo have been two of the states hardest hit by a jump in gang violence in the country over the past year, helping to prompt verbal swipes from U.S. President Donald Trump about how dangerous it is in Mexico.

Some of these tourist spots are the most popular destinations for college students on spring break and would add another crazy dimension to the party there. Along with bringing more tourist money to Mexico, the cartels might find that there enterprises are greatly reduced. Would Mexico legalizing marijuana nationally have one of the largest impacts on reducing violent crime associated with marijuana if the cartels are removed from the picture?
