Most Popular Jobs For Colorado’s Cannabis Enthusiasts
Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment has recently released a study that details which occupations have the highest instances of employees that regularly use marijuana. Using a significant sample size of over ten thousand respondents, researchers are hoping that the survey will provide an accurate and informative glimpse into the career choices of persons that consume cannabis.
While some careers and jobs on the list come as no surprise, like Accommodation/Food Service and Entertainment others such as construction, manufacturing and those in administration support roles were a bit of a shock considering those fields more often than not involve drug testing prior to being hired (although there are some very creative ways to bypass this type of requirement).
The study looked at the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data from 2014 and 2015. It was authored by Roberta Smith, Katelyn E. Hall, Paul Etkind, Mike Van Dyke and is the first study of its kind to use BRFSS data to describe self-reported marijuana use in occupations.
Here’s the percentage of marijuana users among Colorado eligible adults, ranked by industry:
Accommodation and Food Services – 30.1%
Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation – 28.3%
Other Services (except Public Administration) – 20.9%
Construction – 19.7%

Retail Trade – 18.9%

Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing/Hunting – 14.4%
Professional, Scientific, Technical Services – 14%
