You won’t find a Hallmark card for it, but April 20, 4/20, is the unofficial holiday dedicated to smoking marijuana.
There are a lot of stories about how 4/20 came to be. It didn’t start as a police call code or as Hitler’s birthday. It was just a convenient time of day to light up. At 4:20 p.m., school (or work) is out, but you’re not expected back home. Huffington Post traced the usage to California in the 1970s.
Today, it’s so well known that your mom probably knows about it, and Milwaukee businesses are embracing it, legally.
Toppers Pizza
Last year, the Whitewater-based pizza chain noticed a spike in sales on April 20. It sold 7,000 orders of its TopperStix, cheesy, pull-apart breadsticks. In response, the company is having a sale. Starting at 4:20 p.m. on 4/20, the breadsticks will be half price.
Let the snacking begin.
