Lucky’s Market takes leap with CBD, now selling hemp extracts nationwide: For a brief moment last month, it appeared Target was on track to change the course of cannabidiol sales in the United States. But it turns out plucky Lucky’s Market is the national retailer disrupting the status quo. The Colorado-based natural foods chain backed by grocery giant Kroger Co. is now selling nearly a dozen brands of hemp-derived extracts rich in the cannabis compound known as CBD at its 25 stores across the nation. “We’re not afraid to be disruptive and pave the path and be pioneers,” said Sindy Wise, Lucky’s director of apothecary. –Report by The Cannabist’s Alicia Wallace
Without Congressional action, medical marijuana at risk from Sessions: Maryland’s medical marijuana program, finally about to launch, could remain grounded if Congress fails to extend limits on federal prosecutions for using and selling the drug. Under pressure from the anti-cannabis Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the House of Representatives is balking at preserving an Obama-era provision that gives the states space to decide their own approaches to regulating the drug. Congress could soon pull the rug out from under Maryland and almost 30 other states that have legalized medical marijuana. –Report by The Baltimore Sun’s Michael Dresser and Evan Halper
In tight vote, Longmont, Colorado lifts town’s pot-shops ban: In a split 4-3 vote, Longmont’s City Council members voted Tuesday night to give final approval to an ordinance that will eventually allow up to four retail businesses to sell marijuana and marijuana products within the city limits. The approval of the measure lifting Longmont’s years-old prohibitions against medical marijuana dispensaries and adult-use cannabis shops came over the objections of several people who spoke at a Tuesday night public hearing on the ordinance. “I can’t imagine it boosts the city’s image,” said Tuscany Court resident Lon Stevens. –Report by The Times-Call’s John Fryar
