LOS ANGELES — A lawyer for a Los Angeles police captain investigated as part of an illegal marijuana growing operation says his client has done nothing wrong.

Attorney Muna Busailah said in an email that Capt. Phillip Smith denies any wrongdoing in connection with a pot plants uncovered at a Sun Valley warehouse in October.

The Daily News said Sunday that Smith has been placed on paid leave as internal investigators work to determine if he was involved. The newspaper reports authorities have said the captain was “affiliated with the location,” but have not said in what capacity.

Busailah said no search warrant has been served at Smith’s home.

Smith, in an email last week, said he himself notified police of a burglary at the warehouse, which led to the discovery of the marijuana grow.
