Cannabis Oil Lauded For Shrinking Cancerous Tumor

Friends of parliament members seem to keep finding themselves in the spotlight of the United Kingdom’s ongoing debates about medical cannabis. This time, it’s the personal assistant to MP Heather Wheeler, Lin Coxon. Coxon says her use of cannabis oil led to a shrinking cancerous tumor in her breast. Now, researchers are scrambling to study her case in hopes it can help others achieve similar results.
Was Cannabis Oil Responsible For A Shrinking Cancerous Tumor?
Lin Coxon, personal assistant to South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler, was scheduled to begin chemotherapy treatments for her breast cancer.
The chemotherapy treatments were aimed at shrinking a tumor that had grown to 1.3 inches. At that size, the tumor was beginning to invade muscle tissue and lymph nodes in the breast.
But before her chemotherapy began, Coxon began researching possible alternative treatments. After coming across stories about how cannabis oil can help treat cancer and reduce the side-effects of chemical and radiation treatments, Coxon decided to see for herself.
“I did some reading […] and saw there were reports that cannabis oil, which is available as a food supplement, could have beneficial effects so I decided I had nothing to lose,” Coxon said.
In the UK, cannabis extracts containing CBD are legal. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid; it doesn’t produce a high. Multiple studies have linked cannabidiol (CBD) to positive therapeutic and medicinal outcomes for a range of diseases, including cancer.
However, whether CBD can be credited for Coxon’s shrinking cancerous tumor is a question for further study. And researchers at the University of London are very interested in taking a closer look.
Medical experts with the university have been in contact with Lin since news about her shrinking cancerous tumor surfaced. Dr. Wai Liu, a central figure in the field of medical cannabis research in the UK, acknowledged that CBD can “target communication signals that are malfunctioning in cancer cells.”
Restoring or correcting those signals can cause cancer cells to die instead of duplicate. Or in other words, to a shrinking cancerous tumor.
Hospital Shocked By Shrinking Cancerous Tumor
Lin Coxon began experimenting with CBD-only cannabis oil shortly after her breast cancer diagnosis in late June. And in just the two months prior to her first scheduled chemotherapy treatment, Coxon’s tumor shrunk to a third of its size.
Her lymph nodes also shrunk, from over an inch to under half an inch. The whole density of her tumor changed. The shrinking was so dramatic, Coxon’s doctors were completely in awe.
Initially, the hospital denied Coxon’s request for a second scan. So, Coxon had a private mammogram done, which revealed her astonishing results.
Before turning to CBD oil, Coxon was looking at a long line of cancer treatments. Not just chemotherapy, but a surgery to remove her lymph nodes and radiation treatments.
But now, Coxon is holding off chemo. She’s opting to delay her treatments since she feels cannabis oil is taking her in the right direction on its own. Coxon’s consultant will continue to monitor her progress.
For now, Coxon is trying to raise awareness about her situation, in hopes others will find cannabis oil a viable alternative cancer treatment.
“I cannot say cannabis oil will work for anyone else but my experience would seem to show it is worth trying. I feel people have nothing to lose especially if they are waiting for chemotherapy,” Coxon, who is 69-years-old, said.
