Viral Video of Baby Smoking A Blunt Lands Mother In Jail
Last Wednesday, a viral video of a baby smoking a blunt landed a mother in jail. 20-year-old Brianna Ashanti Lofton from North Carolina is the mother of the one-year-old in the video seen smoking marijuana. While children can certainly benefit from medical marijuana, this is not the recommended method of consumption. The mother is facing two counts of child abuse in addition to charges of marijuana possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Video
Brianna Lofton, from North Carolina, recorded two videos in either December or January of last year before posting them on Facebook. The one in question features an adult hand putting a blunt in a baby’s mouth.
The video quickly went viral, garnering 1.5 million views on Facebook. Some Facebook users shared the video in hopes that the authorities would apprehend the people responsible.
In the video, the mother holds a blunt to her baby daughter’s lips. The girl seemingly inhales and exhales the smoke, then looks at her mother.
Caught On Facebook
This viral video of a baby smoking a blunt lands mother in jail after many Facebook users contacted the police.
Authorities posted on Facebook following Lofton’s arrest: “Big thanks to everyone who posted information about the smoking mother and baby.”
Once the police discovered Lofton’s identity, they went to the apartment listed as her residence in the warrant. No one answered there, or at her previous home.
She resides with her mother and grandmother, who are reportedly supporting her throughout the arrest.
The Charges
Brianna Ashanti Lofton is charged with child abuse, marijuana possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The warrant states that Lofton put her child in jeopardy by making her smoke marijuana.
Since the videos were taken a couple months ago and there is more than one video, authorities are charging the mother with repeatedly making her daughter smoke weed.
Yesterday, a judge in Wake County, where authorities are holding Lofton, set her bail at $100,000. “This is the first … kind of this charge that she has ever looked at,” said Lofton’s public defender, Caroline Elliot, of the charges levied against her client.
Where The Daughter Is Now
The Wake County judge also forbade Brianna Lofton from contacting her daughter, whom he placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Final Hit: Viral Video of Baby Smoking A Blunt Lands Mother In Jail
The apprehension of the Brianna Lofton was an important step in bringing her daughter to safety. While there are certainly ways for children to benefit from cannabis, forcing an infant to smoke a blunt is certainly not one of them.
So far, some research indicates that ingesting THC as an infant is dangerous. Though cannabis research is in its infancy, we know that the effects of THC on babies could be dangerous and long-term. Plus, getting anyone high against their will at any age is unethical.
