Edible culture is blowing up, and the UK is no exception. This UK cafe is selling cannabis-infused treats in Liverpool, England. White Wolf Yoga and Kitchen, which opened two years ago, offers yoga and meditation classes and serves mostly vegan health food. With vegetarian options, a low environmental impact and many cannabis-infused dishes, White Wolf is going green in every way.
Is Marijuana Legal In The UK?
Cannabis with significant levels of THC is illegal in the UK. Unlike even some of the most conservative states, the UK offers very limited access even to medical marijuana. Only EU residents traveling through the UK can legally take a variety of types of medical marijuana, all sold outside the UK.
However, hemp, or cannabis with low to no THC content, is legal in the UK. It is also highly regulated through organizations such as The Cannabis Trades Association UK. They estimate that CBD consumption increased from 125,000 to 250,000 users in the past twelve months.
CBD can’t get you ‘high’ like THC. In fact, the cannabinoid does the opposite. It’s main benefit is that it can function as a remedy for everything from aches and pains to more serious ailments.
If Marijuana Isn’t Legal, How Is This Happening?
White Wolf Yoga and Kitchen only sells food infused with CBD oil. Without THC, their products are completely legal. As explains owner Louise Fitzsimmons, “We are part of the Cannabis Trade Association, so everything we do is completely legal and above board.”
According to Fitzsimmons, White Wolf’s mission is to “go green.” In more ways than one, it seems!
The UK classifies hemp and cannabis differently. To grow hemp, you must obtain a license from the Home Office. They specify that hemp must be of low-THC content.
Will The UK Legalize THC-Rich Cannabis?
Parliament held debates this week on the legalization of marijuana.
Though we can’t be sure of how quickly or slowly the UK will progress in marijuana legalization, we do know that the United Kingdom is far behind the EU and the US.
The illegality of medical marijuana remains a massive problem for many looking for a cannabis-infused cure.
Final Hit: This UK Cafe Is Selling Cannabis-Infused Treats
Though cannabis with high THC content is far from legal, CBD use is on the rise across the United Kingdom. Between 2017 and 2018, the number of legal CBD doubled, and talk of legalization is on the rise.
White Wolf is only one of many legal cannabis bakeries popping up across the pond. Late last year, high street health and wellness store Holland & Barrett stocked its shelves with cannabis oil for the first time. Jacob Hooy CBD+Oil is manufactured by a Dutch company.
Considering Holland and Barrett’s scale – they have over 1,300 locations internationally—this was a boon for medicinal marijuana. And Jacob Hooy CBD+Oil ‘s has been an enormous success: sales have increased by 37% since Holland & Barrett introduced the product.
With demand like that, it makes sense that this UK cafe is selling cannabis-infused treats. And the United Kingdom is bound to see more CBD use, and less marijuana restriction, in the upcoming years.
